I have a friend who recently experienced an ethical dilemma at work. That made me recall a resignation I had one time due to the ethical concern. Through all the tough times one may experience, I think the most important thing is to stay true to one self. Sometimes I will ask myself, is it worth it? Everything comes with a price, but the ultimate question is how much is too much? Is it at the sacrifice of one’s health, one’s family, or even at one self, the things one believes in or holds close to?

America was held together through ideals. At the early age, these ideals, together with a few external factors help the country prosper at a phenomenal rate. Nowadays, people do not hold on to these ideals as much as in the past, the corporations start to lose their characters as they develop and the country overall starts to lose its global competitiveness. I guess because of the time we are living in, we tend to have these “dilemma.” I hope the time will change, but for now, one still needs to solve a conflict between one self and the society reality, hence the paradox.

I was bit emotional. Putting emotions aside, I appealed the decision. I called a lawyer and she kindly guided me through the process. There are still good people around. I looked at my MRI report today, I am so thankful that my husband is behind me on the decision when the economy is slow. God will carry me through. After all, he is the ultimate controller.

I just resigned, a mix of feelings, depressed, relieved, and stressed. What I most appreciate during this time is the support from the family and encouragement from friends. My daughter is very cute, she said, mommy, I want to read you a book, page 1, mommy cry, mommy sad, page 2, Heidi and daddy comfort mommy. That basically describes it.

Going through life’s ups and downs, as being an immigrant, a working mother, a wife, and as the one who has lost jobs, gained ones, decided to leave ones, I guess I start to settle down with myself, an inner being. I think as a person who has made a few decisions, and an average person who are not immune to any of the life disappointments or praises, I can at least write and hopefully be useful to others who are going through some difficult time or just need some encouragement. From a selfish standpoint, it may help me to heal through the process.
